There are a number of wonderful community events to choose from all over Longwood Country on Saturday, May 17th. The first ever Plant Sale at the Davis House in Coram starts at 10 am and goes til 4pm. Then there’s Longwood Day at our Longwood High School, starting at 9am and going til 5pm — with a new feature this year: Longwood Idol. The Ridge Memorial Day Parade gets underway at 10 am on Rt 25 in Ridge; marchers travel from Smith Road to the Ridge Road War Memorial, where wreaths will be placed. The Great Brookhaven Clean Up happens all day long in our town. Boy Scout Troop 433 will be at Sequoia Park in Coram picking up trash. Look for members of the Middle Island Civic at 11am at the parkland across from the King Kullen in Middle Island; that’s their annual clean up spot. The MIFD Ladies will be just across the street de-littering the section near Woodville Road. At 12:30pm, the Lake Panamoka Civic will be cleaning up their lakefront beach – bring rakes and wear gloves. The award-winning Yaphank Historical Society will host its Spring Community Yard Sale on the lawns of the Hawkins House from 9am to 4pm. In the evening there’s a new event at Firemans’ Park in Ridge: The Run 2 Glow 5k Fun Run/Walk with music, glow stix and more.Hope the weather cooperates and that all our volunteers have successful events.
