TOB holidayflyer2014

Plenty of wonderful events to choose from to get you and your family in the Holiday Spirit again this year!  The Town of Brookhaven will hold its annual tree Lighting at Town Hall on Friday, December 5th at 6pm.  Saturday, December 6th is chock full of Longwood Happenings: the community favorite Character Breakfast at Longwood Middle School starts bright and early at 8am and goes till noon.  Santa will visit the nearby Longwood Estate the same day from 11:00am to 2:00pm.  Cost is $2.00 per child and you can preregister by calling 924-1820.  Later that afternoon, Yaphank comes alive with its Holiday Craft Show at the Yaphank Fire Department at 3pm. Due to weather, Yaphank’s Santa Parade along Main Street and Holiday Tree Lighting at the gazebo have been postponed for a day til Sunday, Dec 7th at 4:30pm; ditto for the Station 2 Coram FD treelighting at 7pm.

Also on Sunday, December 7th, the hamlets of Coram, Middle Island and Ridge will each host Tree Lighting events along Middle Country Road. First there’s the Pearl Harbor Day Patriotic Tree Lighting at Bartlett Pond Park in Middle Island at 12:30pm, sponsored by The Longwood Alliance, MI Civic and BSA Troop 433.  Veterans especially encouraged to attend.  At 2:30pm, the Coram Civic Association will host its 7th Annual Holiday Festival at the old Coram Fire Department, with Santa, carols by the Coram Elementary School chorus and seasonal goodies; then they’ll light the tree at the historic Davis House at dusk. Bring a canned food item for donation to a local food pantry. And The Ridge Civic Association will welcome Santa to the gazebo at their Community Park and light the big tree  there at 4:00pm.

Little ones aged 2-5 can make a Gingerbread House at the Longwood Estate on Wednesday, December 17 from 10:00 to 10:45am.  Cost is $10 per child; call 924-1820 to pre-register.

Saturday, December 20th is the day for the beloved Santa Trains/Firetruck Tours of  Ridge and Middle Island.  Sirens will be blaring all day for a fun reason as the beautifully decorated and lighted trucks travel nearly every road in our grateful communities.

Earlier on Dec 20th, the Yaphank Historical Society will hold its Christmas Tour from 2:00-5:00pm. The tour features the Swezey-Avey House, St Andrew’s Church, the Booth House, the Police Garage and the Hawkins House. Meet at the Swezey-Avey House to register and pick up a guide.  Donation is $10 for adults; free for those 12 years and younger. Holiday refreshments will be served at Swezey-Avey, and Longwood student musicians and vocalists will be performing at various tour sites.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
