Many thanks to all who attended and participated our 7th annual Gold Star Families Day Recognition Ceremony at Bartlett Pond Park on Sunday, September 17, 2023. Scouts from Troop 560 BSA, along with Girl Scout Angelina Longo and Air Cadet Grant Stitham, presented the colors. Lions Club president Steve Pastena read the opening and closing prayers, and BOE Vice President Dan Tomasewski read the Presidential Proclamation. Elected officials and representatives who spoke were NYS Assemblyman Joe DeStefano, Chad Lennon for Congressman Nick Lalota and Senator Dean Murray, SC Legislator Sarah Anker. The most moving remarks were surely those of Brookhaven Councilman Mike Loguercio, who is a Gold Star Family member, and Rosemarie Kluepfel, President of the Blue Star Mothers SC Chapter. The MIFD placed a wreath at the Gold Star memorial, and sunflowers were presented to attendees.
